ACTECO, the industrial waste management arm of Erum Group, has signed an agreement with AIJU, the Toy Technology Institute, and cement company Cemex for the purpose of using plastic waste from the toy sector as fuel.
This initiative puts in place a procedure by which plastic waste now being taken to landfill can be collected and recycled, turning it into an alternative fuel that can be burnt to fire the cement factory furnaces.
The agreement promotes and reinforces waste recycling. The main benefits from the process include reducing global CO2 emissions and emissions from waste tipped into landfill sites, using less fossil fuel and making use of waste products in cement factories, by means of a safe, clean and efficient procedure.
A charitable fund has also been set up under the agreement, with 5% of waste treatment costs being earmarked for actions in support of childhood and disability.
